Noise Monitoring
Accurate, independent noise monitoring to Irish and European standards.
BHP Laboratories is the largest independent testing company in Ireland providing a wide range of engineering & scientific measuring, testing and analysing services to numerous industries throughout Ireland and the UK. BHP Laboratories provides a comprehensive Noise Monitoring service. Our services include the monitoring and control of noise for commercial and industrial facilities, construction projects and more. We provide sound measurements and surveys, acoustical consulting services, noise studies and assessments and testing services.
Our technicians are certified to carry out the measurements by the institute of acoustics and have extensive experience across a range of sectors. We provide these services with a fleet of fully equipped vehicles and field operatives covering all of Ireland.
Noise Surveys are carried out for a wide range of industries including background surveys, prediction modelling, construction noise monitoring, management and control, intrusive investigations for tonal noise sources, and complete EIA surveys as part of planning applications.
Some of the services provided by our Noise Monitoring services include:
- Operational Noise Monitoring: Routine noise surveys as stipulated under planning license or operational conditions by local authorities. BHP complete all aspects of the work at the specific times required – day, evening, night.
- Construction Noise Monitoring: On site set up and monitoring during specific works to demonstrate compliance with maximum noise limits. This work will normally involve a baseline survey for a full day or week to assess noise variation followed by compliance testing during the project.
- Hire of Noise Meters: Similar to construction noise monitoring undertaken by BHP’s environmental technicians, we also provide a service of hiring noise monitors on a daily or weekly basis. This involves an initial site visit to install/set-up and train the end-user and the reports associated with the surveys completed. We can set up monitors with trigger levels so that relevant stakeholders are notified when noise values exceed limits.
- Standards: Noise from construction, transport, or industry can disturb communities. The following standards help to assess and manage this:
- ISO 1996: Acoustics Description and Measurement of Environmental Noise.
- BS 4142: Method for rating industrial noise affecting mixed residential and industrial areas.
- The EPA publication Guidance Note for Noise: Licence Applications, Surveys and Assessments in Relation to Scheduled Activities (NG4).
